A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
"If you just chant Hare Krishna and take Prasadam, your life will be successful."
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

The Journey of a Lifetime
In 1965, at the age of 69, an elderly monk stepped off a cargo ship called the Jaladuta at Commonwealth Pier in Boston. He arrived with only 40 Indian Rupees, a trunk of sacred books, and a heart full of devotion. He did not come to the West to seek wealth or fame; he came to share a spiritual secret that he believed could solve the anxieties of the modern world.

The Journey of a Lifetime
Against All Odds
The journey across the Atlantic was grueling. While aboard the ship, Srila Prabhupada suffered two massive heart attacks. Despite the physical toll, he remained fixed on his mission, writing in his diary that he was simply a "puppet" in the hands of the Divine. His unwavering determination meant that his message eventually reached the shores of Ireland in the early 1970s.
From a Park Bench to a Global Movement
When he arrived in New York, he had no temple or following. He simply went to Tompkins Square Park, sat under a tree, and began to play his small brass cymbals while chanting the Maha-Mantra.
People were naturally attracted to him because of his purity and genuine compassion. In an era of social upheaval, young people found in him a "spiritual grandfather" who lived exactly what he preached. He lived simply, cooked for his guests, and answered difficult questions with ancient wisdom and sharp wit.
What He Truly Believed In
Srila Prabhupada’s philosophy was profound yet incredibly simple. He wanted people to transform their lives through three pillars:
-
Chant – The Power of Sound: He taught that the Maha-Mantra (The Great Chant) is the "spiritual detergent" that cleanses the mind of stress and anxiety.
-

-
Feast – The Yoga of Food: He famously stated that "no one should go hungry." To him, food prepared with love and offered to the Divine became Prasadam (Mercy), or spiritual nourishment. This is why Govinda’s Restaurant exists in Dublin today.
-

-
Stay Happy – Real Joy is Within: Through "Simple Living and High Thinking," he taught that true happiness comes from realizing we are eternal spiritual souls rather than temporary material bodies.
